Friends Helping Friends

When you have a spinal cord injury, one of the best things you can do for your mental well being is to get to know people in similar situations. It is important to have someone who knows what you’re going through and can help you deal with things that able-bodied friends and family just aren’t able to. That is why LASCI exists. Even though your LASCI friends may be hundreds of miles away, they will still be there to answer your questions and offer support and help whenever you need it. And we love it when two friends from different cities come together in person for support and therapy!

Leslie using Bert’s standing frame

Leslie Ostrander had been wanting to make the journey from Columbus, GA, to Atlanta to visit Project Walk for a long time. She sold books, asked for donations and prayers to help allow her to make her “Project Walk Journey”, and last week, her prayers were answered! On Leslie’s first day at Project Walk, she was accompanied by LASCI and UroMed founder, Bert Burns. Bert acted as peer counselor and support, and after the session, the two returned to Bert’s house where he trained Leslie on all of his cool gadgets including his standing frame and bottoms up bar.

This is just the beginning of Leslie’s journey at Project Walk, but we were thankful Bert was there as a friend on her first day. We love when friends are able to come together for a common goal.
