Accessible Travel and Outdoor Programs in Washington, DC

The Metro – Accessibility

All Metro stations and rail cars are accessible. There are several handicapped parking places, extra-wide ramps and faregates and elevators. Rail cars feature gap reducers between the car and the platform. To find out more information, please visit their website. The Metro Buses – Accessibility

 The Washington D.C. Metro Buses are fully accessible and convenient to use while traveling throughout the city. All buses kneel or lower to make entrances and exits easier and quicker. There is priority seating for those with disabilities as well as wheelchair ramps or lifts. If the hydraulic lift system malfunctions, it can be operated manually for 100% reliability. Each bus contains two wheelchair securement areas in the front and include tie-down and lap belts for safety. There is an accessible yellow button next to the wheelchair securement area so the customer can alert the driver of his or her next stop.

MedStar National Rehabilitation Network -Wheelchair Basketball

MedStar NRH offers free wheelchair basketball clinics on Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Emory RecreationCenter. All ages and disabilities are welcome to come learn the basics of this exciting sport!
