UroMed Sponsors 39th Annual Spina Bifida Association National Conference

UroMed Reps Vicki Sizer and Aratee Shah ready to meet guests!

From June 28th to July 1st, UroMed proudly sponsored the 39th Annual SBA National Conference and Kids!Camp in Indianapolis, Indiana. UroMed representatives Vicki Sizer, Aratee Shah and Andy Webb were on hand to answer questions, teach about UroMed’s products and play with the kids. The 3-day event provided children and adults with Spina Bifida, and their families, an opportunity to learn about the latest medical and tech news as well as a unique chance to network with various interest groups.

Attendees had opportunities to:

  • Learn information about urology, orthopedics, and neurology.
  • Attend workshops and special programming that address their own interest areas.
  • Network with various interest groups such as product manufacturers and healthcare professionals as well as others with Spina Bifida.

The Kids!Camp was an opportunity for children with Spina Bifida to play in an adaptive environment and develop motor skills and daily living skills. Activities included rock climbing, arts and crafts, and museum tours! UroMed sponsored the Kids!Camp by providing catheters and continence products to all the children!

One lucky family got to attend the conference for FREE thanks to a scholarship offered by the Spina Bifida Association of Georgia that was sponsored by UroMed. Missy Colvin and her daughter, Kyra, were the winners. We hope they had a wonderful time!

Kyra loved the kazoos we handed out!

About Spina Bifida

Spina Bifidia is the most common permanently disabling birth defect in the United States. It occurs when the spine of the baby fails to close during the first months of pregnancy. The effects of Spina Bifida are different for each person but often include paralysis. There is no known cause, or cure, because the nerve and spinal damage is permanent.

Did you know:

  • Each day in the United States, an average of 8 babies are born with Spina Bifida or a similar defect of the brain or spine.
  • An estimated 166,000 people with Spina Bifida currently live in the United States.
  • Hispanic mothers are 1-1/2 times more likely to give birth to a child with Spina Bifida than non-Hispanic Caucasians.

 Urologic Care and Management

According to the Spina Bifida Association, the urologic care of children with Spina Bifida has undergone several important changes in the last decade. The emphasis is now on early catherization of the child’s lower urinary tract function and preventive treatment to preserve both kidney and bladder function in an attempt to maximize the child’s long-term health.

UroMed provides only the highest quality catheters and medical supplies from the leading name brand urology and incontinence supply manufacturers to help parents and caregivers with the most effective and reliable products for their child’s care.
